Why we started The Screamatorium

The first 2 years we had our house we maybe gave away about 1 bag of candy combined. We thought to ourselves what happened to Halloween? Where are all the kids at? So my Wife Tanya Latorre and I Gregory Latorre with the help of two friends started Scary Halloween House. The event is completely free and is entirely outside. We call it a Yard Haunt. On our second year doing it we got around 500 people at our house and we knew we had something then. We ran out of candy and I had to run to the store fast.

Since then we have grown bigger each year and we had roughly 1800 people last year. We went from 4 people to about 12. We have volunteers each year help us now. We decided to give back also now. Each year we collect money for a charity. This year’s charity will be the March of Dimes. I did mention the event is free but we do ask for donations for the charity and 100% of the money goes to the charity.

This event is truly a different experience that everyone should experience. Each year we all dress up and walk around the yard scaring and interacting with the people that show up. It truly is for all ages. Once it gets dark the event does get scarier though. We don’t start the scaring until you step into the yard. So people can feel free to walk around and see if they are up to walking through the event. If they dare!

We would like to dedicate the event to my mother that passed away before the event really got going. She always loved see and talking to the kids when they came up. She is one of the reasons we do this event for charity. Each year we do it we think of her.
